LABEL GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS - YES ON PROPOSITION 37

Labeling is a choice for life.

Dr. William Olkowski, Bio-Integral Resource Center

The argument that labeling 80% of processed food already genetically contaminated is costly is also full of holes. If California labels; the country will follow. That pattern is already a fact with other issues. Waiting for this Congress and others like it -- to do the right thing -- can take decades. How long has it taken the government to ascertain that the climate is in chaos, tobacco is deadly, toxins in air, water, soil and food are precursors to dangerous diseases? Just last month, a 59-year old Denver man diagnosed with lung cancer won a quick jury-verdict of $7M, not from smoking but from inhaling the diacetyl fumes of microwave popcorn for years (CBSNews.com).

So a little poison every day will kill you sooner than later. We don’t have the time to wait for tumors. Who would rather eat rotten food? Today labels on dairy products have expiration dates to prevent this and such requirements did not put any dairy producer or grocery store out of business.

Labeling gives us a choice. And yet we have been eating genetically contaminated food for years -- caused by a dysfunctional regulatory system poisoned by the very companies seeking Federal registration. Monsanto scored a billion-dollar profit last year by monopolizing the market on world seeds. With just a few companies owning most of the world’s seeds, food security is threatened.

This is not a political but a human-health issue. Products should be tested for safety before being registered, right?. This was not the case with GMO. The first GMO crops were supposedly considered safe and no tests were required. This assumption was false and we are paying the price in neurological, immunological, and many other diseases.

We have a choice between Monsanto’s profits versus poisoning of the biosphere. Genetic pollution is forever. Genetic pollution exceeds even nuclear pollution - easily a few hundred thousand years. Genetic pollution is forever from its transmission to future generations.

There is no way to stop this wind from blowing and that is how genetically modified foods contaminate the biosphere. Monsanto even uses this aspect to sue farmers whose border crops are near their own GMO crops for patent infringement. Pollens from GMO crops fertilize non-GMO crops and other plants. With former Monsanto lawyer Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court, we are not safe for choice of life even there.

There is a great deal of scientific evidence to suspend all genetically modified products until further testing. This is what the European Union has chosen decades ahead of us.

WE NEED A MORATORIUM ON ALL GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS.

If you are pro-life and pro-choice on non-GMO, you shall vote YES ON 37.
